Hot News-Cinco de Mayo Edition

Well folks, the weather is heating up-and so is the news. Here’s what’s going on:

  • The pool is now open daily from 12PM-9PM.
  • This Saturday, May 7, check out the European Union Open House at member state embassies down in DC. From the press release:

The EU Open House Day is already a popular tradition among EU Embassies in Washington, DC. At the Austrian Embassy, visitors can take delight in sampling exquisite Austrian wines. Once more, Austrian pastry chef Willi Jonach will showcase his skills by preparing traditional Apple Strudel. Viennese pastries, coffee, juices and snacks will be served throughout the day. An exhibition as well as visuals illustrate the characteristics of the country and its people. This rare, behind-the-scenes event will showcase what countries in the EU have to offer. Come with your family or friends, and experience new kinds of music, dance, food and fun like you haven’t seen before. Want to take a trip this summer?  Maybe this EU Open House Day will provide some inspiration. Free shuttle bus service will be available throughout the day and many of the embassies  are Metro accessible.

Admission free.

  • The Air Show (officially known as the Joint Service Open House-Andrews) will be open to the public May 21-22. It’s free, and it’s AWESOME. Featured demonstrations will include the Thunderbirds, the Golden Knights, the A-10 Warthog, and the F/A-18 Hornet-as well as many other “static” displays. Ever want to see the Stealth Bomber up (relatively) close? Bring the family on over to Andrews Air Force Base and check it out!
  • Avast ye, landlubbers! Saturday, May 14, from 11AM-4PM, Pirate Fest will be held on the grounds of Darnall’s Chance House Museum in Bowie, MD.
