The long-awaited Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial will officially open to the public on Monday, August 22, 2011! The dedication will take place at 11 a.m., the following Sunday, August 28, 2011 and will be free and open to anyone who wants to come. The memorial is on the Tidal Basin and will be accessible by any means of transportation (though the Metro system might be the most convenient).
The memorial will undoubtedly be a powerful and meaningful experience; the precision with which the memorial has been designed is incredible. Every element involved–water, stone and light–is highlighted in order to enhance the metaphorical words of Dr. King, and to shed awareness to the power of hope that one man can bring.
