This year’s inauguration for President Obama will take place on Monday, January 21, 2013. The swearing-in ceremony will begin at 11:30am that day, and can be seen at the US Capitol building. In order to obtain tickets, you should contact your senator’s or representative’s office in advance. If you are not able to obtain a ticket, you can still be a part of the event from the National Mall, and then watch the parade that immediately follows along Pennsylvania Avenue, from the Capitol to the White House.
Here is the information on the special SmarTrip card which can used on Inauguration day.
For those attending, please remember that it is COLD in DC on inauguration day, and we recommend dressing in layers. You should also try to pack your bags as lightly as possible and expect your bags to be searched at the select entry points.
As usual, but especially on inauguration day, we recommend the use of public transportation. We will be selling the SmarTrip cards in the office and the Metro prices will be running on a rush schedule all day. If you need a refresher on how to use the DC metro, click here.
